How it works

These 30-45 minute practices and 10 minute meditations are specially designed for all the variations of ourself. Sometimes our minds are racing and our body feels like a dead weight. Sometimes our body is tense while our mind is sluggish. Sometimes we feel like we are mentally and physically amped up. There are a whole range of combinations of our mental and physical state and there are a whole range of yoga practices, cueing, and intentions that elicit totally different results.

After taking a few moments to check in, simply note your current mindset and how your body feels, click on the appropriate categories, and you’ll arrive at a specific class for just that combination. You may choose to be guided to a yoga class or mindfulness practice based on just your mental state, just your physical state, or you may choose classes based on the descriptions.

These 16 yoga practices and 16 meditations are a personalized recipe to soothe naturally fluctuating moods and energy levels.

Why practice this way?

How we move is as impactful or more impactful than what we do in our practice. Holding poses produces a different quality than flowing through poses. Even more nuanced, slow flow nurtures a different condition than fast flow, inhaling to move produces a different quality than exhaling to move, where we gaze and even where we move from invoke a distinctly different pose and practice. Come As You Are methods use subtleties of the inner body and mental focus to provide a whole being yoga practice to nourish us.

Inspiration

Come As You Are is derived from an integrated exploration of yoga, physiology, the subtle body (vayus and chakras), Ayurveda, and neuroscience.

It all began in an attempt to  illustrate different constitutions to a group of teacher trainees. It is pretty well known in yoga that varying pose types will elicit different states. For example, generally backbends are energizing and forward folds more calming. However, I wanted to teach about the potential of how we practice. I taught the same exact sequence three different times. Each time we practiced, I used cueing, tone, pacing, and variations to highlight a particular disposition. The results were astounding! One class ended and everybody was super energized and chatty. Another class ended and people were very quiet and introspective. The last class ended and people were calm and alert. It was very powerful for me as a teacher to see and for the students to experience. It was suggested that it would be wonderful if this was available online. After four years of experimenting and playing with the ideas, here it is. Come As You Are is meant to meet you where you are and provide you just what you need.

Hi, I’m Leigh

Hi, I'm Leigh

I'm dedicated to exploring, practicing, and moving from the inner body. I've found that the inner expression of a yoga pose is the most powerful and effective path towards personal growth and a strong asana practice. I get my kicks helping people tap into their subtle body and their inner teacher.

Leigh has a graceful way of listening and explaining so that everyone participating feels that they get the best of all the information she has to share. The laughter and fun make her classes so great to be a part of. She is an exceptional teacher.

Since practicing with Leigh my yoga practice has taken a transformative shift in movement and alignment. She is a wonderful, thoughtful, engaged and observant teacher. Leigh teaches with passion and possesses a vast knowledge of anatomy, physiology, philosophy, yoga history, and ethics.

One of the beautiful ways Leigh teaches yoga is she is really guiding you how to care for yourself. She wants you to be independent and encourages you to practice on your own, but is always right there to help with any questions, adjustments and recommendations.

Stephanie

It amazes me how she can cue (down to the toes) and improve the energy, grounding and alignment in my practice. Leigh not only knows the asana, but knows how to apply anatomy, alignment, energetics, muscle contractions and mindfulness into the pose. Her classes have a "wholeness" feel, where she intertwines the eight limbs of yoga.

Gayla

Leigh teaches with a straightforward knowledgeable grace. Her presence and ability to explain each pose, offering visual adjustments as well as physical, really helped me bring my practice into a very connected and internal space. I felt empowered and exhausted after our wonderful yoga weekend.

Jenny

Yoga has renewed my love for my body. I have taken several of Leigh's classes, and at the end of every session I feel stronger and more confident. I am amazed at what my body can do, and Leigh gently encourages us to believe in our own strength. I look forward to my yoga class all week.

It is clear Leigh has a passion and deep love for learning about keeping the body healthy and thriving for the whole life span, and sharing her knowledge in a relatable way. Something that stood out to me was how humble she was while sharing this life changing way of moving. It was so powerful and present in my body.

We are so fortunate to have a yoga instructor of Leigh's caliber in a town as small as Valdez. I really appreciate her attention to form during class, making sure that the poses do not lead to injury, while still offering opportunities for further challenge and focus. My practice has improved tremendously with her help!

Bonnie

Because she teaches and reinforces the correct posture in each class, over time, you begin to know what to focus on before she even reminds you. Leigh walks around during class and will 'correct' or realign our posture to the correct stance.
